Environment

In terms of environmental protection, the Geological Bureau is involved in environmental impact assessment studies. These include studies to assess biodiversity (land and sea), air and noise quality, and the protection of the physical environment.

The GBC has carried out the following studies:

  • Environmental and Socio-Economic Impact Assessments related to the implementation of sustainable forest management measures for the construction of the Bahani La Soufrière road
  • Environmental impact assessments on air quality (H2S) in the summit area of the Karthala (Soufrière area, drilling stations and area planned for the road)
  • Assessment of the volcanic risks of the Karthala in Grande Comore
  • Assessment of the environmental and social impacts of the 3D seismic surveys of blocks 35, 36 and 37 off the Comoros Islands
